Lean 6 Sigma

Lean 6 sigma is a quality methodology which uses lean concepts (the 7 waste, simplifying and thinning processes, reduce the none value proposition, etc.) with statistic approaches of 6 Sigma (Process ability, standard deviation, CTQ, VOC/VOB, etc.).

The combination of these two major quality approaches makes possible to have all the improvement tools whether it is to improve globally an activity (reduction in average performance) or risk measurement about a process (reduction of dispersion).

A lean 6 sigma approach aims to lead to an enhancement of activity through a team. That is why, this methodology highlights collective intelligence and operational feedbacks. As a result, structured approach called “DMAIC“ includes the following stages:

D for Define

The first step consists in defining how to clarify and precise the perimeter of the improvement site.

That is why a project team must be chosen by a managerial sponsor.

This team will put in context (and approve), define issue, and hypothesis (the cause of the issue?)

Moreover, improvement goals are defined, and also the planning (Sort if possible and if possible on a few weeks).

M for Measure

Once the issue is targeted, a measure stage starts.

The goal of this stage is to measure quantitatively factors which influence performance of process.

A for Analyze

The following stage consist in analysing data and make it meaningful.
Statistical analysis allows to correlate data in order to ascertain the most influent factors.

As a result, a statistical model of activity can be established, which ascertain observed results depending on inputs factors.

From this moment, a provisional approach can be set-up, but before it, the analysis phase allows to “factualize”, in other words to establish the “truth” which haven’t been obvious for the team but point out by the data collection.
